... A sheitel is a wig as worn by religiously observant Jewish women.

 
 

 

Readers may remember the controversy in 2004 over the use of human hair of Asian Indian origin in the manufacture of sheitels. The hair was cut from the heads of Hindu women as part of a religious ceremony and subsequently sold for the benefit of their temple. [more-1, more-2].
